Online renewal issues

There have been a high number of calls asking whether the College has received payment. The system will automatically generate a payment receipt and email it to the email address provided. Please note that free email accounts (hotmail, gmail, yahoo) are unreliable and the payment confirmation may not reach your inbox. Staff are not able to respond to the many inquiries about whether the College has received forms or payments. With just under 8000 registrants, the priority is to print and mail licenses. Please check your credit card statement to verify whether your transaction has been processed or the online registry (updated every Sunday).

There have been a few calls about technical issues. Most are corrected by carefully entering the information. Please make sure that you enter the billing address for the credit card on the payment information page. You will also need to enter the three digit code from the back of the card. This is all for your security.

Problem renewing online?

There have been a small number of technical issues reported by individuals attempting to renew online.
1. Full Renewal - The first employer information is mandatory. If you do not have an employer please enter the following information in the appropriate field:
Employer Name - 'No current employer'
Employer address - 'none'
Employer Postal Code - 'Z1Z 1Z1'

2. An error code appears after clicking submit: There are too many different types of computers, operating systems, security settings, and internet browsers to answer all of the potential questions. However, it is recommended that you try the following:
a) restart your computer
b) open your browser
c) find, 'tools' and click internet options
d) in Explorer, under the 'general' tab, click delete history
e) return to www.clpnbc.org and try the form again.

The College accepts no liability in the unlikely event that there is damage or loss resulting from following these directions. Please refer to your computer's 'Help' on clearing temporary files and caches.

FAQ related to CIHI

Q: Why do you collect all this information about where I work every year?

A: The federal government requires the College to collect registrants' employment information for health human resources planning. This information is submitted to the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) every year.

FAQ related to CRRA

Q: My last name begins with a letter from F - J and I received a criminal record review form. I just had a criminal record check through my employer. Do I still need to complete and return the form?

A: Yes, you need to complete and return the form. The Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) requires regulators to submit the form for review. We can not, by law, rely on a previous criminal record check.

Q: If I did a Criminal Record Check last year and then changed my name do I still need to do another one this year?

A: Yes, we want all registrants with the last names starting with an F to a J to complete Criminal Record checks at roughly the same time.

Q: If I do not work with children do I still need to complete it?

A: Yes, you do.

Q: Why is Part 2 (section B) of the criminal record review form blacked out?

A: Part 2, section A has already been filled out for you. You are not required to complete Part 2 section B.
Complete only Part 1 (applicant information) and Consent for release of Information and Acknowledgements (bottom of page)

Q: Is the RCMP consent and criminal record check the same?

A: No, it is not.

Q: Do I take the criminal record check form to my local RCMP detachment and pay the fee to have this check done?

A: No. Follow the instructions on the letter from our office and fill out the form we sent you, attach it to your renewal form and send them both in together. For current registrants who are renewing, with the last name starting with F through J there is no fee for this criminal record review.

General topics

Q: When are the 2009 renewal form and fee due back?

A: Complete and return your form and payment by December 1, 2008. You can send or mail it in earlier. Late fees apply after December 31, 2008.

Q: Is the deadline different if I am paying by payroll deduction?

A: Yes. If you are paying through employer payroll deduction, your 2009 renewal form is due back by November 15, 2008. Your employer is required to submit payment and a list of employees they are paying for by November 30, 2008.

Q: What will happen if I select Non-Practicing Renewal for my status
(Section 1) and then, during the year, have to switch it to Full practicing status?

A: You need to contact our office as far in advance as possible. We will send a conversion form. You also need to pay a prorated difference between Full and Non- Practicing Renewal fees. This process may take a number of weeks depending on a range of factors.

FAQ for self-employed

Q: How do I complete section 8 of the 2009 registration form if I am
self- employed?

A:
Scenario 1: If you provide nursing services to clients in their homes (i.e. - foot care services) - you would indicate as your first employer- that you are self employed, including your business name and address. Also, by being self- employed you would indicate the Health Authority, in this situation, as "not applicable".

Scenario 2: If your self- employed business is hired by a facility to provide nursing services to its clients (i.e. - foot care services) - you would indicate as your first employer- that you are self- employed. For your second employer you would indicate the facility that hired you to provide your services- and also indicate which Health Authority that facility is located in. You would do the same if you had a third employer.
